Fr. Philipp Johannes WAGNER, O.P.  is the new Rector of the Basilica of Saint Sabina.
Angelo de Donatis, Titular Archbishop of Mottola, Vicar General of His Holiness for the Diocese of Rome, has appointed by Decree, in accordance with the Canon Law 556-563, Reverend fr. Philipp Johannes WAGNER, O.P. RECTOR of the Basilica of Saint Sabina. This decree was given in Rome, at the Apostolic Vicar headquarters at the Lateran Palace, on June 1st, 2018.
Through the decree he grants him the appropriate faculties to his office. In addition he also thanks Father Miguel Ángel Del Río González, O.P. his predecessor.
Archbishop Angelo de Donatis, in the Decree recalls the pastoral zeal in the culture of faith. "The historical churches of the city of Rome, unequaled heritage of art, represent above all a pastoral value that must be closely guarded, because it is always alive and active in the life of the Christian community of the Diocese of Rome.
He emphasizes the importance of being Rector " to safeguard in the best possible way the cult in the church of Saint. Sabina on the Aventine and protect its heritage of art and history, agreeing to be guided by the Master General (Fra Bruno Cadoré, OP). Archbishop Donatis is pleased to name fr. Philipp RECTOR of St. Sabina Basilica ".
 
fr. Philipp Johannes Wagner OP
 
Fr. Philipp was born on 26.05.1969, he has been a Dominican since 1990.
 
After his novitiate and university studies in Bonn and Rome, he worked for almost nine years in the Dominican parish of Braunschweig, a university town in northern Germany. In 2004 the Provincial Chapter appointed him Master of Students and in 2008 Master of Novices. During these years he lived in Worms, home of the  common noviciate to the German-speaking Dominican provinces. He was a formator for 13 years and then spent six months in the SS convent. John and Paul in Venice where he received his nomination as Rector of the Basilica of S. Sabina in Rome on the Aventine.
 
 "I believe that S. Sabina will give greater visibility to the Dominican presence in Rome, offering the many visitors of the church, the faithful and tourists, the opportunity to live the Basilica as a spiritual place and meeting with the Dominicans who testify of the gospel. "
