The official Liber Constitutionum et Ordinationum Fratrum Ordinis Prædicatorum (2025) now available
ROME — The General Curia of the Order of Preachers announces the publication and availability of the official 2025 Latin edition of the Liber Constitutionum et Ordinationum Fratrum Ordinis Prædicatorum (LCO), the foundational juridical text governing the life, mission, and governance of Dominican friars throughout the world.
This new edition, issued by the General Curia in Rome, incorporates all legislative modifications approved up to the General Chapter of Kraków (2025) and now makes the text available both in print and digitally for wide and enduring access.
An Authoritative and Updated Text
The 2025 LCO was first issued by fr. Bruno Cadoré, OP, Master of the Order (2010–2019), and is augmented with all subsequent changes promulgated under fr. Gerard Francisco Timoner III, OP, Master of the Order, through the General Chapter celebrated in Kraków in 2025.
Since the promulgation of the post–Vatican II LCO in 1968, responding to the call of the Second Vatican Council for an authentic renewal of religious life, the LCO has been periodically revised and reissued to reflect the discernment of successive General Chapters, including editions promulgated in 1984, 1986, 1998, and 2010.
The present edition reflects significant developments in Dominican governance and life, including:
- Structural reforms following recent General Chapters
- Updated norms for elections, including electronic suffrage
- Clarified distinctions between constitutions (stable law) and ordinations (norms adapted to circumstances)
- Continued integration of digital accessibility alongside traditional print publication
